Canisius welcomes Linda E. Thomas, PhD, professor of theology and anthropology at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, to campus tonight Thursday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Regis Room. The lecture, entitled “The African American Church and Politics in 2009,” is free and open to the public.

Josh Heidinger leads the Griffs against Air Force |
There are seven, count ‘em seven, home athletic events this weekend with something for every sports lover. It all begins Friday night with soccer; swimming, volleyball and hockey hosting out of town opponents on Halloween and a trio of events concluding action on Sunday. Soccer and volleyball are fighting for post-season bids, swimming is hosting their first meet of the year and hockey is taking on the three time defending conference champs (and preseason favorite) Air Force.
The schedule is as follows:
Friday, October 30
Men’s Soccer vs. Marist – 7 p.m., Demske Sports Complex
Saturday, October 31 (Trick or Treat)
M/W Swim vs. Gannon – Noon, Koessler Athletic Center
Volleyball vs. Rider – 2 p.m., Koessler Athletic Center
Hockey vs. Air Force – 3 p.m., Buffalo State Sports Arena
Wear a costume and get a free piece of candy at the door. Also the St. Joe’s Pep Band performs the new Griffin Fight Song.
Sunday, November 1

The first student/faculty recital of the school year is this Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m in Christ the King Chapel. This is a great opportunity to see your students outside of the classroom!
The recital features both Canisius College faculty and students and is free and open to the public. The varied program features voice, clarinet, harp, piano, organ, cello and double bass. Faculty performers are Melissa Thorburn, adjunct professor, fine arts/music; Karen Schmid, adjunct professor, fine arts/music; and Jane Cary, chair and professor of fine arts/music. Student performers include Robert Sharpe, Jacob Cukierski, Elizabeth Geyer, Bradley Wingart, Chinatsu Tsukada, Laura Shepherd, Philip Leszak, Stephanie MacDonald, Holly Colwell and Emily Yancey.

In all likelihood, the odds are very much against your being related to any royalty in Nigeria. E-mails promising a share of some lost treasure in exchange for your bank account details prey on people’s greed; all you would get out of one of these “419” scams is an empty bank account and possible criminal charges. Just ignore and delete these E-mails.
