Today’s Cyber Security Tip – Encrypted E-mail

E-mail is more like a postcard than it is like a letter in an envelope; there’s nothing preventing people, between the sender and the recipient, from reading an unencrypted message, any more than you can keep a letter carrier from reading the back of a card. If you want to make your E-mail eavesdropper-proof, you have to encrypt it, meaning that both the sender and the recipient will have to install some additional software on their computers. If you are interested in learning more about this, contact Matthew Gracie, information security administrator in ITS, at Ext. 8378 or via E-mail at graciem@canisius.edu.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In order to make faculty and staff more aware of computer security issues, helpful facts or suggestions will be published every day this month in Under The Dome. Direct questions or comments to Matt Gracie, campus information security administrator, at Ext. 8378 or via E-mail at graciem@canisius.edu.

These tips will also be available on the “Canisius Information Security” Facebook page. Facebook users can add that page to their newsfeed.
