Braun-Ruddick Seismograph Station to Present Information at Earth Science Day

Mark Castner, director of the Braun-Ruddick Seismograph Station, will represent Canisius on Saturday, October 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the annual Earth Science Day at the Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center. The event is run by the Hamburg Natural History Society.

At this unique event, visitors will have the opportunity to view a drill rig up close and in action during a coring demonstration, talk to geologists and earth scientists about what they do, find out about earthquakes and earthquake activity in WNY, learn about minerals and fossils, view the sun and solar flares through special telescopes, and collect and keep all the fossils they find.

This event is free and open to the public, and will be held rain or shine. Fossil collecting will be held on the same site, and is free for members of the Hamburg Natural History Society, $6 for non-member adults, and $5 for non-member children. AT&T Wireless Vendor on Campus

An AT&T representative will be on campus Wednesday, October 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. outside of the bookstore on the lower level of the student center. Canisius employees are offered a 20 percent discount on qualified monthly charges and discounts on select wireless devices. Existing AT&T customers may qualify for this discount. The vendor will be able to answer questions about existing accounts and create new accounts.

An Invitation To Zumba, Brown Bag Lunch

The STEPS Committee invites all faculty and staff to experience Zumba during a Brown Bag Lunch event on Wednesday, October 14 in Regis North. Sessions will be held from Noon – 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. – 2:15pm. Bring your lunch and bottled water to be enjoyed after the workout. Loose, light-weight, comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended for this activity.

Zumba is a workout routine that mixes body sculpting movements with dance steps derived from cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, hip hop, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso and Salsaton. The routines will be kept to a beginner level, and feature a combination of fast and slow rhythms. It targets areas such as the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and the heart.

Annual Oktoberfest Celebration October 23

The Canisius College German Club sponsors the annual Oktoberfest celebration as part of Family Weekend on Friday, October 23 from 8 p.m. – Midnight. Music will be provided by the Frankfurters and authentic German food will be available.

The event is free to Canisius students, faculty and staff with ID and children under five years of age. Admission is $5 for other adults and $3.00 for non-Canisius students and children ages five to 16. The admission price includes a souvenir mug and ticket for first beverage. Tickets for food may be purchased separately.
