Parrotta To Meet Faculty/Staff In Town Hall Friday (October 14)

All Canisius faculty and staff are invited to attend a “Town Hall” style meeting with men’s basketball coach Tom Parrotta on Friday (October 14) from 1:45 – 3 p.m. in the Student Center Conference Room.  Parrotta will discuss the upcoming season, scheduling, recruiting or any other topic that relates to basketball during this informal session.

Carballada Discusses Politics, Business, Latino Issues Today (October 13)

Carlos Carballada 56, HON ‘81, former mayor of Rochester, NY, will give a lecture entitled “Politics, Business and Latino Issues in Western New York” on Thursday (October 13) at 4 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

Carballada will address several issues including core values of ethics, social justice, and equality in the context of politics.  He will also speak on the value of a Canisius education for those interested in business, community service and politics.

BPO Back On Campus October 16

The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO) will perform its annual on-campus concert on Sunday, October 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  The concert will be conducted by Matthew Kraemer, the BPO’s associate conductor, and features the BPO’s English hornist Anna Mattix, who is also a Canisius College fine arts faculty member. The program includes works by Rossini, Donizetti, de Falla, Turina and Fauré.  Tickets are $25 general admission/$10 students and can be purchase online here or in the fine arts office, LY 406.  For full program information click here.

Men’s Soccer Hosts Final Home Games Of Season

The Canisius College men’s soccer team plays host to a couple of conference tilts this weekend.  The games are the final two home games on the 2011 schedule.

Canisius will meet Manhattan at 7 p.m. on Friday (October 14) before hosting St. Peter’s at 1 p.m. on Sunday (October 16).  The Griffs close the regular season with games at Loyola, Rider, Niagara (October 28) and Cleveland State.

Hockey Helmets, Science Are Physics Café Topics

The science behind hockey helmets and how they keep players safe will be discussed at the next Physics Café lecture on Monday (October 17) at 3 p.m. in Horan-O’Donnell, Room 103.  The lecture, entitled “Biomechanical Concerns in Certification Standards for Ice Hockey Helmets” will be led by Karl Kozlowski, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology.  All are welcome to attend.

The Physics Cafe is a periodic gathering in the Department of Physics to discuss and learn about topics related to physics, engineering, and science.
