Hill Named Director Of Marketing

Canisius College President John J. Hurley announces that Robert R. Hill is the college’s new director of marketing. Hill’s responsibilities include the development and implementation of unified marketing strategies across multiple media, brand identity standards, and marketing support for various departments and divisions throughout the university to drive both short and long-term strategic goals.

“Bob fills a new and extremely important position at Canisius as the college begins significant brand and marketing initiatives, as well as a complete web redesign,” says Hurley. “He will develop a new integrated approach for Canisius that will govern all of the college’s marketing efforts.”

Hill comes to Canisius with nearly 20 years of higher education experience. He works with the associate vice president of public relations to set university-wide marketing priorities, and ensure a seamless flow of communications. Hill also manages and sets goals to support the college’s strategic plan.

Hill previously was associate vice president for marketing and printing services at Xavier University. He managed the development of institutional marketing strategies and created and executed a campus-wide marketing plan. During his tenure, Xavier experienced record enrollment and fundraising results, and experienced unprecedented success in its regional and national rankings. Hill also was director of communications for Xavier and assistant editor for Syracuse University’s advancement publications.

He holds a master’s degree in higher education administration and a bachelor’s degree in public communications from Syracuse University.

Lee Appointed Director Of Graduate Scholarships Office

Christopher R. Lee, PhD, associate professor of religious studies and theology, has been appointed Director of the Graduate Scholarship Office effective January 2012.  He will replace Nancy J. Rosenbloom, PhD, professor of history, who has been the director in recent years.  She will return to full-time teaching in her department.

The primary responsibility of the office is to identify outstanding students and assist them in applying for prestigious national and international scholarships such as Fulbright, Truman, Udall, Boren, Gilman, Goldwater, Javits, and others.  Lee will work closely with a scholarship committee to achieve this goal.  Members of Canisius Community may refer top students who appear to have the qualifications for graduate scholarships.

Lee’s academic interests are the anthropology of religion, religion in South Asia, Islam, and Hinduism.  He has won a number of awards such as a Fulbright-Hayes Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities award for the study of his specialization, the effect of globalization on traditional poetry and arts in South Asia.  He will continue to teach a reduced schedule in the Department of Religious Studies and Theology.

Mission SoftChalk Fall 2011

Information Technology Services (ITS) announces that specialized SoftChalk training sessions will be held beginning October 16 with a three-week “Mission Softchalk” seminar for all levels of users ranging from beginners to advanced users.

SoftChalk creates interactive, professional looking webpages for E-learning courses quickly and easily.  It is an ideal tool for those that use ANGEL in any capacity.  Softchalk is available to all faculty and staff to easily engage students through the creation of interactive content including games, quiz questions and pop-up text annotations.
