Take A Seat With Athletics

For those who want to attend a Golden Griffin game with a friend or family member for free, get a complimentary meal and sit in the best seats in the house, send an Email to maddock@canisius.edu with the game of choice (first-come; first served) and receive an exclusive offer being made initially to the Canisius community.  Seats are located courtside on a couch provided by Integrity Office, and members of the cheerleading or dance team will deliver food in the first half to our special guests.  Go Griffs!

L.A. Gangland Immersion Trip Presentation Thursday (December 1)

A presentation highlighting the recent Los Angeles gangland immersion trip will take place tomorrow (December 1) at 2:30 p.m. in Regis Room.  The presentation is free and open to the public.

A group of 19 Canisius students will share their experiences from a Los Angeles gangland immersion trip which was part of a “Introduction to Latinos the US” class taught by Richard Reitsma, PhD.  The trip was sponsored by The Fitzpatrick Institute of Public Affairs & Leadership, Office of Mission and Identity, Office of Community Based Learning, and the All College Honors program.

Canisius Night at Kleinhans Saturday (December 3)

The Canisius College Concert Band, directed by Paul D. Biddle, goes to Kleinhans this Saturday (December 3) to perform as part of the Community Spotlight Series run the by Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.  The band plays at 7 p.m. in the Mary Seaton Room and the BPO will perform at 8 p.m.  The BPO’s program, entitled “Baroque Masters,” features local guitarist Jason Vieaux (pictured, right) as soloist in Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto in D with conductor Piotr Gajewski.

Tickets are $21 general admission and $6 for students through the BPO Box Office at 885-5000.  Be sure to mention Canisius College for this special rate.

And, don’t forget that the Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble will perform Friday (December 2) at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.

Griffs Home Opener Features Nation’s Top Scoring Team Friday (December 2)

The Canisius College men’s basketball team plays its home opener this Friday (December 2) at 7 p.m. in the Koessler Athletic Center against an extremely talented quintet from Iona College.  Iona is the preseason favorite to win the MAAC and has already knocked off Maryland by 26 points and St. Joe’s in overtime.  The Gaels lead the country in scoring at 94.3 points per game and feature one of the top point guards in the nation in Scott Machado (19.8 points, 12.8 assists).

Canisius will counter with its all-junior backcourt featuring Harold Washington (18.3 points), Alshwan Hymes (16.3 points) and Gaby Belardo (11.0 points).

The game is presented by Wendy’s with all Canisius students receiving free Wendy’s food and Frostys at halftime.  Tee Shirt University will toss free shirts into the crowd and Just Pizza will present the loudest group of fans a free pizza.  Students will also be able to sign up for one of two digital cameras that will be given away free at Sunday afternoon’s basketball doubleheader.
