Spring 2010 Celebration of Service Coming

The college takes pride in the commitment of its faculty, administration and staff and will recognize those individuals who have reached 20, 25, 30, 35 or more years of service at the annual Celebration of Service ceremony on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 3 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Canisius is the excellent institution it is today because these colleagues have given of their time and talents over the years. This event is a way to celebrate their success and achievements and to honor them as well those who will be retiring from the college this year. Meet-the-Faculty Recital Friday

Pink Zone Scheduled For Friday

The annual Pink Zone women’s basketball game is scheduled for the Koessler Athletic Center tomorrow (February 19) at 7 p.m.  And guess who the Griffs are playing – Niagara!

The first 150 women and girls in attendance will receive a complimentary pink New Era cap provided by Western New York Breast Health.  In addition to the hats, special Pink Zone gifts will be given away to fans, while supplies last.  During the game, pink sneakers will be passed through the crowd as money is collected for cancer research.

Free Income Tax Preparation Available

The Income TAXi, coordinated through Daemen College and the United Way’s CASH program, will be coming to the Hughes parking lot at Old Main on Saturday, February 20.  Volunteers, including Canisius College students who have attended training, will be preparing personal income tax returns for the public.  The maximum income to qualify for free tax preparation is $49,000 and the standard deduction must be used.  All Canisius faculty and staff may take advantage of this service.  Make sure to bring all W2 forms, last year’s tax form if you have it, photo identification and your Social Security number.  Call 1-888-696-9211 for an appointment.

Festival of Faiths February 21

The college will host the “Festival of Faiths,” presented by the Network of Religious Communities, On Sunday, February 21, from 2 – 4 p.m. on the second floor of Old Main.  All are invited to come learn about various faith traditions from representatives of those faiths, including: Islam, Baha’i, Latter Day Saints, Hinduism, Judaism, Pentecostal Christianity, Quaker and Sikhs.  This event is free and all are welcome to attend.  Faculty are asked to encourage their students to also attend.  For more information, contact Jonathan Lawrence, associate professor, religious studies and theology, at lawrenc7@canisius.edu or Ext. 2825.
