Hurley Serves As “Principal for the Day” At St. Benedict

John Hurley, executive vice president and vice president for college relations, served as “Principal for the Day” at his alma mater, St. Benedict School in Eggerstville, on Monday, February 1. Hurley’s visit supported the Diocese of Buffalo’s Catholic Alumni Partnership, a project aimed at helping Catholic elementary schools reconnect with their alumni.

During a morning tour of the school, which brought back many fond memories for the graduate of the St. Benedict class of 1970, Hurley stopped to chat with a 4th grade class. When he asked the class what they would like him to do as “Principal for the Day,” the class responded they wanted him to proclaim “vacation for an entire year” and “no homework.”

Hurley was also a “special guest” in the Brown Bag Lunch program in the school cafeteria where he enjoyed a childhood favorite PB&J sandwich with the students.

The Catholic Alumni Partnership aims to create a sustainable fundraising program for every Catholic elementary school, with alumni support as its foundation. Hurley is the first “guest principal” of the diocese’s partnership program.
