Symposium On Pet Therapy February 18

The Canisius College Institute for the Study of Human-Animal Relations (ISHAR) will hold a community-wide symposium on Thursday, February 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  “Pet Therapy: Who Benefits and What Are the Risks?” will feature Stephan Zawistowski, PhD, executive vice president of the ASPCA, who will lead a discussion of the ways in which people use animals to assist in therapeutic treatments of humans (e.g., pet-assisted therapy, service animals for handicapped, etc.).  His presentation will include lessons learned from past experiences and an overview of the ethical challenges inherent in this type of human-animal interactions.

All members of the Canisius community are invited to attend this free event.  Audience participation will be encouraged so please come with your own insights, questions and desire to learn more. For more information, call Ext. 2770 or visit the event Web site here.
