Deadline Approaches For Ignatian Scholarship Day Submissions

Monday, March 1, is the deadline for the submission of abstracts for Ignatian Scholarship Day presentations spotlighting the academic achievements of students.  Faculty and staff members who have collaborated with students on research projects that can be presented as papers, posters, artistic performances or multimedia expressions are urged to encourage their students to submit their information by that deadline.

Turner, Bevilacqua Play Final Home Game Saturday

Seniors Frank Turner (pictured, right) and Bob Bevilacqua will don the home uniforms for the final time this weekend as the Griffs host James Madison on Saturday, February 20 at 7 p.m. as part of ESPNU’s Bracketbuster schedule.  James Madison, led by 6-10 center Denzel Bowles, who averages more than 20 points per game.

Turner will depart the Griffs program as one of the most decorated players of all time, ranking fourth in scoring with 1704 points, 19th in rebounding with 551 boards, first in assists with 581 and fourth in steals with 184.  He is the first player in school history to score 1500 points, and collect 500 rebounds and 500 assists.  Bevilacqua will be fondly remembered for his inspiring performance against Niagara in 2008.

Ice Hockey Honors Seniors With Weekend Matinees

The final home weekend of the hockey season is upon us as the Griffs host American International College (AIC) in a huge Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) series at Buffalo State Ice Arena.  Game time Saturday is 3 p.m. and Sunday’s face-off is 4 p.m.

The Griffs (14-12-4 overall, 12-9-3 in conference play) sit just one point out of fourth place heading into this weekend’s action.  The Griffs are looking to secure their first winning season in five years while also seeking home-ice advantage for the AHA quarterfinals.  Instrumental to the Griffs success has been a class of eight seniors – Andrew Loewen, Ryan Klusendorf, Jason Weeks, Josh Heidinger (pictured, right), Carl Hudson, Dave Cianfrini, Vince Amigone and captain Peter MacDougall.

Saturday is also New Era Crazy Hat Day.  Fans who wear crazy hats are eligible to win up to $50 in gift certificates from New Era.  There will also be free hats given away at the door.  Senior ceremonies on Sunday will take place following the game.  The Hyatt Regency will provide free cookies to fans.

Spring 2010 Educational Technology Tutorial Reminder

This month’s educational technology tutorial is “Podcasting for your Announcement Area or Course,” which will be held Tuesday, February 23 at 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, February 25 at 3:30 p.m.  It is one of the many free educational technology tutorials available covering an array of helpful tools that advance student learning.  They are conducted completely on-line, via a Web conferencing system.
