Angelique Szymanek, adjunct professor of art history, will lecture on “Performative Resistance: Women, Performance Art & the Discourses of Violence” today (October 24) at noon in the Regis Room.  This talk is free and open to the public.

This talk covers the practice of performance art and its use by women artists, such as Jenny Holzer and Ana Mendieta, as an effective means through which the often muted issue of sexual violence may be brought to light.  A number of complex and troubling relationships between artist, image and viewer will be discussed that offer numerous insights on the relationship between visual culture and images of violence.
