October Is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

This year, Canisius College ITS recognizes October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month by making material from the SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security (SANS) “Securing the Human” video series available to all Canisius faculty and staff.  These videos are each only a few minutes long, but they contain excellent information about a wide variety of cyber security topics.

More information will be sent to Canisius Email boxes on how to access this new material and make online experiences safer.  Also, users who watch all of the videos and complete the short assessments that follow them will be entered into a drawing to win one of several Tim Horton’s gift cards.

Child And Family Services Reminder

Please keep in mind that the college’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is here for all Canisius faculty and staff and their family members.  This month’s tip is:

As the temperature drops, the leaves begin to fall, and daylight hours become shorter, many people may experience mood changes.  For some of us, this time of year leads to increased feelings of sadness and possibly depression.

Did you know that:

  • Depression and depressive disorders affect approximately 18.8 million American adults annually.
  • Depression can be caused by a significant loss or chronic stress, such as marital conflict, addiction in the family, divorce, family illness, death, financial pressures or loss of a job.
  • Depression can also be caused by genetic factors and/or significant trauma, such as emotional or physical abuse as a young child or an adult.
  • Help is available through the EAP.

The EAP provides free confidential counseling, assessment and referral services.  For more information, call (716) 681-4300 or 1-800-888-4162 (outside of Erie County).  Visit EAP on the web here, click on Employees, Family Members, login with username: cfseap1981 and password: eap4you
