Mission & Identity Announces Course Development Grants

M. Fernanda Astiz, PhD, (Adolescence Education, SEHS), Jonathan D. Lawrence, PhD, (Religious Studies & Theology, CAS) and Jennifer Lodi-Smith, PhD (Psychology, CAS) are recipients of the inaugural Mission & Identity Course Development Grants for summer 2012. Rev. Michael Tunney, S.J., director of the Mission & Identity office, oversaw the process that concluded Monday, April 23 with the awards.

Astiz’s course proposal is entitled, “The Jesuit Mission in Latin America: Yesterday and Today;” Lawrence’s course proposal is entitled, “Travel, Spirituality, and Justice;” and Lodi-Smith’s course proposal is entitled, “Psychology of Religion.”

All three course proposals will benefit our students across academic departments and programs. They will also benefit the professional development of the three professors, their departments’ offerings, and the college’s core curriculum. Tunney commended the professors and their course proposals for their responses to our college’s deepening appreciation of our Catholic and Jesuit ideals in the classroom, as well as in the service-learning opportunities they will offer our students.
