Colleen Porter Passes Away

Colleen Toohey Porter passed away in her Cleveland home on March 22, 2012.

A former adjunct faculty member in English, Porter is perhaps best known for her impact and influence on Canisius College Little Theatre, which she directed from 1982-1994 and moderated from 1992-1994.

“She was a talented, warm, fun, caring, sarcastic individual who treated us ‘kids’ as adults,” says Michael J. Odojewski ’93. “Many of the Little Theatre Alumni are life-long friends due to experiences we shared in Little Theatre thanks to the leadership and friendship provided by Colleen. She is truly missed and I take comfort in that fact that so many of us carry on in her memory.”

At the time of her death, Porter was serving as director of community engagement and education at PlayhouseSquare in Cleveland, Ohio.

Colleen Porter is survived by her mother; her husband, a daughter and two sons. A memorial will take place in Cleveland in May.
