The Braun-Ruddick Seismograph Station recorded the 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck near the coast of Honshu, Japan on Friday (March 11).  It was followed by a series of strong aftershocks measuring approximately 6.0 and spawned a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean that reached the West coast of the United States.  To view a printout of the earthquake activity, click here (Adobe Acrobat PDF).

Televisions outside the Braun-Ruddick Seismograph Station on the bottom floor of Old Main provide updates and information on earthquake activity.

Under Director Mark Castner, the Braun-Ruddick Seismograph Station is located in the basement of Old Main.  The station joined the New England Seismic Network last summer.
