Women’s Business Center Hosts “Speed Networking”

The Canisius College Women’s Business Center will host “Speed Networking” on Wednesday, March 23, from 3 p.m.to 5 p.m. at the Canisius Amherst Conference Center. The event is free to current Women’s Business Center networking clients and $20 for all others.

Speed networking is a fast, exciting way for a business person to establish new business contacts, obtain business leads, gain ideas and grow their business.

Canisius Composer-in-Residence to Premiere Opera

Canisius Composer-in-Residence Persis Parshall Vehar will premiere her latest opera, “Eleanor Roosevelt” (Adobe Acrobat PDF) on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 at 4 p.m. at the Carrier Theatre in Syracuse, NY. “Eleanor Roosevelt” will be performed by The Society of New Music.

Vehar’s opera is based on the play Eleanor: Her Secret Journey by former Cazenovia Writer Rhoda Lerman with Ithaca librettist Gabrielle Vehar. The production celebrates the impact of Central New York on the women’s right movement.

Vehar has been praised by The New York Times for her musical “honesty, clarity, and compositional skill.” Her works have been commissioned and performed by leading orchestras, opera companies, ensembles, soloists, and schools across both the United States and Europe. Vehar has received 27 annual ASCAP Awards and seven Meet-the-Composer grants.
