Spring Faculty Meeting

All faculty and staff are invited to the Spring faculty meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Regis Room.  Scott A. Chadwick, PhD, vice president for academic affairs, will address the strategic direction of academic program development grounded on liberal arts tradition.  Ann Marie Moscovic, director of undergraduate admissions, will demonstrate an on-line, new-student community building network.  Jonathan Lawrence, PhD, associate professor of religious studies, will present information about the progress of the Core Curriculum implementation.  There will be time for discussion and Q&A, and refreshments will be served.

Eldorado Is Sunday’s Film in 2010 Francophone Film Festival

The film Eldorado (2008) will be shown Sunday (March 21) at 7 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center as part of the 2010 Francophone Film Festival.  Discussion will be led by Nicolas Lorgnier, PhD, assistant professor of graduate education & leadership.

As one of the main characters, Yvan, enters his house to discover that is was burglarized and that the burglar is still in the house.  After confronting his nemesis, Yvan comes to meet the young heroin addict Elie.  The two strangers quickly become an unlikely duo, setting out on the town together.  Yvan sets out on a road trip with him to bring him back to his parents.  Funny and worthwhile to see, Eldorado is sure to enlighten all.

All screenings in the 2010 Francophone Film Festival are free and open to the public.  Films are in French with English subtitles.  For more information, click here.

Upcoming ArtsCanisius Events

The Eighth Annual Student Composers’ Workshop will include the Amberg Quartet featuring Betsy Reeds, flute; Paul Scholsslman, oboe; John Fullam, clarinet and Persis Parshall Vehar, piano and Composer-in-Residence in a clinic/performance of works written expressly for the ensemble on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  The program includes works composed by area student composers as well as works by Vehar’s and the late 19th century composer Heinrich Molbe.  The performance is free and open to the public.

And don’t forget this Sunday (March 21), Canisius College faculty members Jane Cary, harpsichord, and Karen Schmid, fortepiano, are joined by soprano Janet Obermeyer (pictured, right) to present a recital “There is delight in singing” 3 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance features works by Purcell, Mozart, a rare set of songs by Schubert written in Italian as well as lieder by Clara Schumann. Cary and Schmid will also perform a solo work on each of their period instruments. There is a reception following the concert, presented by Sigma Alpha Iota, International Women’s Music Fraternity.
