Un Secret Is March 18 Film In 2010 Francophone Film Festival

Today’s (March 18) film in the 2010 Francophone Film Festival is Un Secret (2007).  It will be screened at 2 p.m. in Student Center Regis Room, and discussion will be led by Eileen M. Angelini, PhD, professor of modern languages.

A great French film bringing out cultural diversity, Un Secret is sure to please to all historical and romance fans.  After the Second World War in Paris, lives François, a young creative and thinking son to Maxime and Tania. François entertains himself with creating unreal stories about a brother that he has never had, until a deep hidden secret forces itself into the perfect family’s life.  Before the war and the birth of François, Maxime was married to a woman named Hannah with whom he had a son.  One day at a wedding, Maxime met Tania, but forced himself not to love her due to his faithfulness to his wife.  After the war broke out, Francois was forced to split from his wife Hannah due to religious reasons and then reunites with Tania.

All screenings in the 2010 Francophone Film Festival are free and open to the public. Films are in French with English subtitles.  For more information, click here.

ArtsCanisius Lecture March 18

An art history lecture titled “Photomontage, Gender and the Bauhaus” will be held today (March 18) at 2:30 p.m. in Regis South.  Elizabeth Otto, PhD, assistant professor of modern and contemporary art at SUNY at Buffalo, will speak on the art and artists of the Bauhaus, the avant-garde arts academy that flourished in Germany from 1919 until its forced closing in 1933 by the National Socialists.  This lecture is free and open to the public.

ArtsCanisius Special Event March 21

Canisius College faculty members Jane Cary, harpsichord, and Karen Schmid, fortepiano, are joined by soprano Janet Obermeyer (pictured, right) to present a recital “There is delight in singing” on Sunday, March 21 at 3 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  The performance features works by Purcell, Mozart, a rare set of songs by Schubert written in Italian as well as lieder by Clara Schumann.  Cary and Schmid will also perform a solo work on each of their period instruments.  This is the final music event for the Women in the Arts Festival at Canisius College.  There is a reception following the concert, presented by Sigma Alpha Iota, International Women’s Music Fraternity.

Spring 2010 Educational Technology Tutorials

This month’s educational technology tutorial is “Using Image Creation and Editing Tools to Enhance your On-line Courses” which will be held Tuesday, March 23 at 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, March 25 at 3:30 p.m.  It is one of the many free educational technology tutorials available covering an array of helpful tools that advance student learning.  The tutorials are conducted completely on-line, via a Web conferencing system.
