Canisius College has several course policy guidelines important for the end of the fall semester:

  • Reading Day (Friday 12/8) is new this year to provide students with extra study time before exams.  No classes may have formal/required meetings on that day.  However, classes may have optional review activities on that day.
  • All courses are required to have a final exam or equivalent (final paper/assignment) during final exam week (these final activities may not occur in the last week of classes).
  • Graded materials (papers, exams, finals) that are not returned to students must be retained on campus for one year after the date grades are due.  Material from this semester (Fall 2017) must be kept until December 21, 2018. You can dispose of (shred) graded material from the Fall 2016 semester on December 22, 2017.
  • Gradebooks need to be retained for 5 years.  If you use D2L for your grades, we keep the courses for that 5-year period to meet this requirement.  If you do not use D2L, please make sure that you have your gradebook stored in case you need it.
  • Final grades are due Wednesday, December 20th at 9:00 a.m.

Planning for spring 2018 semester:

  • Ignatian Scholarship Day is on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.  Any classes that normally meet on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday pattern do not meet on this day. Classes that normally meet on Wednesday only or on a Monday and Wednesday pattern still meet on this day.
  • Reading Day is on Friday, May 4.  No classes meet on that date.

Thanks for your attention to these details and for all you do to make a Canisius education special for our students.  Good luck navigating the end of the semester!
