Introducing the Employee Dashboard

As Canisius continues on its path to roll out the remaining Ellucian Banner Self Service 9 (SSB9) modules, we invite everyone across campus to start using SSB9 for Employees – also known as the “Employee Dashboard”. The Employee Dashboard is where you will find your pay stub, leave balances, tax documents, timesheet submissions/approvals, deduction history, YTD earnings, and an employee summary. This new tool can be found under Human Resources in your Canisius portal.

A few offices have been using the Employee Dashboard, along with the updated timesheet entry method, for over a year now, so it is well tested and reliable.  Ellucian will be ending support for the old way of entering approving time (SSB8) in the upcoming year or so, therefore we need to move to the new functionality offered in SSB9.

Self Service Banner 8 (SSB8) will remain available should you have any issues using the Employee Dashboard, submitting or approving timesheet(s). Our plan is to sunset Self Service Banner 8 (SSB8) web time entry March 31st, 2024.

Using the “My Team” functionality is a great way to review information about staff that report to you, including mailing addresses, phone numbers, emails, leave balances and emergency contacts. We encourage you to review this information and advise your staff to keep Canisius emergency contact information current via the Campus Alert/Update Emergency Contacts or Personal Information apps. Both apps are available in the portal, under CAMPUS SERVICES.

To assist with campus training, we have recorded 2 short Ellucian videos; they can be found in our Banner wiki documentation page found here: https://wiki.canisius.edu/x/-wM1Ag  (Scroll down to find the Self Service Banner 9 for Human Resources heading, in order to view the Employee Dashboard Overview and/or the Hourly Timesheet Overview). The most important thing to understand when entering timesheets is:

Using the “save” button will only save your timesheet until later, it does not submit your timecard for approval. You must click Preview to see the submit button, use this button to submit your timesheet for approval.

Please consider adding the Employee Dashboard to your favorites in the portal, just click, drag and drop!

In January, we will announce dates/times for zoom drop in sessions to help support this transition.

Canisius and Tapestry Charter School Articulation Agreement

The School of Education & Human Services signed an articulation agreement with Tapestry Charter School which allows students to take university-level introductory courses and apply academic credits to their degree requirements at Canisius. This “Grow Your Own Teacher Program” is funded by a $20,000 award received by Canisius from the Cullen Foundation. The program began on September 1, 2023, and runs through June 30, 2024.

Tapestry students completed EDU 100: Exploring the Teaching Profession instructed at Tapestry Charter School during the fall 2023 semester. In the Spring 2024 semester, students will enroll in ENG 111 – Academic Writing, which will be instructed on the Canisius campus.

“We are excited to expand our collaboration with Tapestry Charter School and to introduce high school students to the teaching profession,” said Sara R. Morris, PhD, vice president for academic affairs. “This agreement will enhance the student experience and help prepare them for the next step in their educational journeys.”

To be eligible to take courses and earn credit with Canisius University, students must be juniors or seniors who are academically prepared for college-level course work.

Tapestry high school students who earn credit through this articulation, and who apply for and are admitted to Canisius as an undergraduate student, may apply those credits to their degree requirements at Canisius University.  Tapestry high school students may request a transcript be sent to any college or university they choose to attend for evaluation of courses EDU 100 and ENG 111 by that institution.

Toys for Tots Drive: A Success!

The New Buffalo Institute extends its sincerest gratitude to all those who donated toys during the Toys for Tots drive this holiday season!

Each week, the boxes in Old Main, outside the library and in the Student Center were filled with brand new toys, donated by generous members of the Canisius community, including faculty, staff, students and alumni. We are so grateful to everyone who donated to make the holiday season brighter for the children serviced by the Resource Council of WNY!
