Excellence Within Reach

Following last week’s campus announcement, Excellence Within Reach officially kicked off with an integrated marketing and public relations campaign.

In addition to significant media coverage (see the most up-to-date list below), the tuition initiative is being supported by an advertising campaign that includes television, radio, display, Facebook and video advertising as well as a major social media push on the college’s Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat channels.

The campaign’s goal is to generate widespread awareness among high school students and parents throughout the Northeast in an effort to increase interest among a wider pool of prospective students. The seven-week marketing campaign is scheduled to run through November 11.

Get to Know…

Jonathan DiCicco, PhD, associate professor of political science

Jon DiCicco, PhD, exemplifies the model of the teacher-scholar. His classes are challenging, innovative and popular. Jon participates annually in conferences to present his work on international rivalry and war, foreign policy-making and teaching methods.

As director of the International Relations Program since 2011, Jon is a dedicated advisor and mentor to international relations majors and he helped the Model United Nations program to flourish. He says he is proud to serve the collective mission of Canisius College.

“Every day I am amazed and inspired by fellow members of the Canisius College faculty and staff whose devotion to cultivating an atmosphere of higher learning transcends the call of duty,” says Jon, who also serves as an elected member of the Faculty Senate and the Strategic Planning Committee.

He adds, “Often without compensation or credit, people selflessly give their time, energy, and expertise to make this institution something greater than the sum of its parts. Their collective efforts as individuals for and with others is astonishing. Together with our students, they make Canisius a special place to work.”

His peer-reviewed article, “The Things They Carried: Generational Effects of the Vietnam War on Elite Opinion” (co-authored with Ben Fordham), is forthcoming in the highly respected journal International Studies Quarterly.

Did you know?

As a vegetarian and former warehouse worker, Jon continues to be surprised at how much he misses driving a forklift and how little he misses eating meat.
