Students in the capstone in kinesiology (KIN 494) course visited the Museum of DisABILITY History on Tuesday, September 26. Students took a tour of the facility, which included a comprehensive historical analysis of the disabled as a minority group from both a domestic and global context. The presentation closed with a discussion about the role that sport has played historically in the advancement of disability civil rights.

United Way Campaign Kicks off Today!

When you give to the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, your gift helps those in need in our community, and allows the United Way to do the work that no one nonprofit can do alone. Thanks to you, the United Way can identify the areas of most need, tackle those issues head on, and promote volunteerism and engagement throughout the community. Please consider giving a gift this year. Also, please note that your donation can even be designated directly back to Canisius College!

Our goal is to increase participation from 72 to 100 donors this year! The UW committee will feature a basket raffle each Friday. When you make a donation to the 2017 campaign, your name will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of the baskets featured in the photo below. The first drawing will be on Friday, October 6. You will be eligible to win the first week you pledge and throughout the entire six-week period, so pledge early! Drawings will continue every Friday throughout the campaign!

Charitable Donations

We are aware of how fortunate Canisius is to have loyal donors. In order to ensure continued support, and so our donors are able to claim the benefits of their gift on their 2017 taxes, please forward any donations received by your department to Advancement Services AG202 attention: Katie Huck. All gifts to the college must be recorded in Banner so that a proper tax receipt may be issued to the donor. If you have any questions please contact me at Ext. 8211 or send an email to huckk@canisius.edu.

Meals on Wheels Volunteer Opportunity

As part of our engagement initiatives, faculty and staff have expressed interest in volunteer opportunities that are available within our community. Meals on Wheels may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. Meals on Wheels is currently in need of volunteers to pick up meals from the main location on Jefferson Avenue and deliver them to the homes of meal recipients. This will take only 30 minutes to one hour of your time.

If you can consistently volunteer your time on any day of the week sometime between 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., please contact Darby Ratliff, graduate assistant for Campus Ministry, at Ext. 2875 or at ratliffd@canisius.edu. We hope that you will join us in this excellent opportunity to give back to the Buffalo community!
