The ArtsCanisius fall season is full of exciting art and music events that are open to the campus and the general public. Please join us as we celebrate the vibrant fine arts community here on campus. All events are free except for the September 29 recital.

This Friday, September 11 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., is the opening of an art show in the newly renovated Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Art Gallery in the Bouwhuis Library. This show features the work of Buffalo-based artist Augustina Droze. If you can’t make the opening reception, the art will be up until Friday, October 9.

The event on Monday, September 14 at 12:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center is a Meet-the-Faculty lecture/performance given by adjunct professor Michael Colquhoun, PhD. He will discuss the connection between sight and sound through the use of graphic musical notation, which is a largely improvised musical tradition.

Please note that the piano recital on Sunday, September 20 has been moved to 2:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Kate Liu, prize-winner of the New York International Piano Competition under the auspices of the Stecher and Horowitz Foundation, will perform a recital of works by Frederic Chopin.

Monday, September 21 is another Meet-the-Faculty event at 12:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. This is a recital featuring three Canisius faculty members, Bryan Eckenrode, cello; Cristen Gregory, soprano; and Jane Cary, piano, in a performance of works by Bernstein, Mozart, Puccini and others.

Our final September concert is the first Canisius and the BPO Connection/Informally~Formal Chamber Recital on Tuesday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this event $15 general admission and $7 for students. BPO musicians Amelie Fradette, cello; Loren Silvertrust, violin; and pianist Susan Schuman will perform works by Piazzolla and Shostakovich.
