Welcome Back!

Canisius faculty and students are back to classes today – the first day of the 2015 – 2016 academic year. The Office of Student Life, along with some other spirited Canisius community members, welcomed new and returning students at the annual Griffin Welcome Walk outside of Old Main in the Koessler Plaza.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The freshman class of 2019 is comprised of more than 600 new students, many of whom moved into their respective residence halls on Thursday, August 27.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Griffin Welcome Rally was held Thursday, August 27 in the Koessler Athletic Center as Canisius and prominent alumni welcomed new students to the college.

Zipline – get involved or just watch! Ziplining and human foosball will be going on in the Bart Mitchell Quad from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. today!

Thursday, September 3

Mass of the Holy Spirit – The Mass, which celebrates the start of the school year, will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Montante Cultural Center.  Faculty will process in full academic regalia from Old Main at 3:45 p.m.

A dinner, “Buffalove Buffet,” featuring favorite local dishes, will follow Mass starting at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. along with a bonfire in the Bart Mitchell Quad from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Friday, September 4

Drive-in Movie – “Pitch Perfect 2” will be screened outside in the Bart Mitchell Quad starting at 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday, September 9

President’s Convocation – Come hear President John J. Hurley discuss the state of Canisius, as well as his vision for the future of the college, in the Montante Cultural Center at 2:30 p.m.  There will be refreshments following President Hurley’s talk.

Student Services Center

Student Accounts, Financial Aid and the Registrar offices are now housed under the Student Services Center, located on the main floor of Bagen Hall. The center allows for the streamlining of many services for students.

Canisius Welcomes New Faculty

Be sure to say “hello” to the newest members of the college community.

Timothy Brown joins Canisius as a visiting assistant professor in the Communications Studies Department.  He comes to Canisius by way of Niagara University where he served as an adjunct professor in communication studies.  He is also principal of T.G. Brown & Associates Inc., an advocacy communications consultancy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tara M. Cornelisse, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Animal Behavior, Ecology and Conservation (ABEC) program. She joins Canisius from Macaulay Honors College, City University of New York and Brooklyn College, where she served as an adjunct assistant professor.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Julianna Golebiewski ’04, PhD, is a new assistant professor in the Economics and Finance Department.  Golebliewski was most recently a senior economist for the New York City Independent Budget Office.

 

 

 

 

 


 

Daniel Haeusser, PhD, joins Canisius as an assistant professor in the Biology Department.  Haeusser was most recently an adjunct professor at the University of Houston-Downtown in the Department of Natural Sciences.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jonathan Lopez ’03, PhD, joins the Mathematics and Statistics Department as an assistant professor.  Lopez was most recently an assistant professor at Niagara University.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Adina Oprisan, PhD, also joins the Mathematics and Statistics Department as an assistant professor.  She was last an assistant professor at Barry University in Miami, Florida where she taught since 2009.

Daily Mass Resumes Today

Daily mass in Christ the King Chapel will resume today, August 31, 2015 at 12:05 p.m.

Please note the following times for Sunday Masses as they have changed:

• 11:30 a.m. with Cantor and Organist
• 8:30 p.m. with Contemporary Music Ensemble

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) will be offered:
• Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
• Fridays at 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Please join the college community in celebrating the beginning of the academic year at the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, September 3 at 4:00 p.m. in Montante Cultural Center.

Employee Parking Tag

Registration is now due for 2015-2016 employee parking tags. Current tags expired on August 15, 2015.

Simply go to www.Canisius.edu; click on myCanisius; login with your username & password; under online tools, click on Email, Angel & Services. A drop down occurs. Click on All Applications & Services. Under Campus Services, click on Purchase Parking and follow the prompts.

  • Enter your Canisius username and password
  • If you are not paying via payroll deduction, enter your credit card or checking/savings account information for payment
  • Enter your vehicle description (year, make, model, color)
  • Enter your vehicle license plate number.

You can pay via payroll deduction, credit or web check. Your tag will be sent to you once you’ve registered and paid via interoffice mail.

If you pay with cash, you must still register on-line but will need to pay at the Student Records and Financial Services Office in Bagen 106, at which time you will receive your tag.
