Canisius Geek Squad Makes Final Appearance

The end of September brings with it the end to the welcome back series by the Geek Squad. Scott Clark and Joe Rizzo will once again be in the Faculty Lounge on Friday (September 30) from 10 – 11 a.m. to answer any questions Canisius faculty and staff may have about technology, ITS and its services.  And if they don’t know the answer, they will find it whether it’s information about what technology is available in a specific classroom, where to borrow a projector, the new myCanisius portal, or anything techie.

They are also planning a new series of workshops which will now include parallel topics including productivity, keeping your computer in shape, grading assignments electronic (paperless), and best practices using Microsoft Outlook. Other workshops will be announced through Under the Dome so watch for up-and-coming events.

Live the Mission Via An International Service-Immersion Experience

The Office of Campus Ministry invites Canisius faculty and staff to live the college mission through an international service-immersion experience.  Faculty and staff can join Canisius students to travel to El Salvador, Poland, Jamaica, Ecuador and India in order to work with and learn from the poor and marginalized.  Canisius College distinguishes itself by offering transformative learning experiences that engage students in a global society, and these trips are great examples of that.

Margaret Stefanski, PhD (back row, center right), associate professor of Spanish, modern languages, literatures and cultures, recently traveled with the 2011 Ecuador team.

To explore how to get involved, contact Lu Firestone in the Office of Campus Ministry at: firestol@canisius.edu.  Recent trips were featured in the summer 2011 edition of Canisius Magazine.  Read about them here.

GrifFit Wellness Program Announced

From John J. Hurley, president

I am pleased to announce the launch of GrifFit, the official Canisius College wellness program.  This program is part of the college’s strategic plan to develop a comprehensive health and wellness initiative that stresses the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of our faculty and staff.

The college is partnering with Independent Health for this program, which begins by assessing your input through the Interest and Readiness to Change Survey.  The survey is anonymous, and is administered by a third party.  Your individual information will not be shared with the college or Independent Health.  Please complete the 10 minute survey here.   The college will receive an aggregated report of interests and needs which will help us select wellness programs.

We need everyone’s assistance to create a healthier Canisius community.  I ask everyone to complete the survey so we can begin the process.
