Presentation On Dangers Of Radon Gas In The Home

Frank Scarpinato, environmental education specialist with the Erie County Environment and Planning Division, will speak today (April 16) at 2 p.m. in Horan-O’Donnell Room 107 on the hazards of radon gas in the home.

Scarpinato will explain what radon is, where it comes from, why it is dangerous, how to test for it, and where to get help mitigating high levels.  This presentation is designed to inform the average citizen of the potentially life threatening hazard presented by radon gas, and is a must for all home owners and anyone who ever plans on buying a home.  For more information, contact Timothy Gregg, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, at greggt@canisius.edu or Ext. 2259.

In Remembrance Of Katyn Screening Today (April 16)

A screening of Katyn, a film by Andrzej Wajda, will be held today (April 16) at 3 p.m., in Regis Room North to celebrate the lives of the President of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, his wife, and more than 90 political, army, church, and community leaders killed in the plane crash on April 10, 2010.  The official delegation was on their way to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the massacre in Katyn and other nearby regions, where the Russian Secret Police murdered over 20,000 Polish Army officers and intellectuals at the beginning of the World War II.

The event has been of utmost importance because recently the Russian government admitted to committing the crime which for a long time was attributed to the Germans. For additional information about the film, please contact Margaret Stefanski, PhD, at stefansm@canisius.edu.

Baseball Hosts Siena This Weekend

The Canisius College baseball team will take its undefeated (6-0) conference record into this weekend against visiting Siena College.  Saturday’s doubleheader commences at Noon, while Sunday’s single game also begins at Noon.

The Griffs are currently a half game up on both Marist and Niagara for the top spot in the MAAC.  The Griffs 22 regular season wins are best in the league.  Siena is 2-4 in conference play and 13-19 overall.

Shoes For The Shelter This Sunday (April 18)

Canisius College Athletics, in conjunction with Independent Health, will host the 12th annual Shoes for the Shelter 5K this Sunday (April 18) at Noon.  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Patrick Lee Athletic Center on the day of the race.  To register or for more information, go to www.gogriffs.com and click on the race icon, or pick up and complete a registration form outside the cafeteria today.

Whether or not you participate in the event, you can still play a big part in the race by dropping new or used shoes in the bins located strategically around campus.
