On Saturday, November 2, I had the incredible opportunity to attend Roswell Park Comprehensive Care Center’s 29th annual All Star Night, a black tie gala.

All Star Night was held at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center and was attended by about 900 people. While I worked the event as a volunteer, I was fortunate enough to use it as a networking experience with some successful people in Buffalo.

One of my responsibilities at the event was to direct attendees to their tables. While doing this, I had an opportunity to talk to Buffalo Bills legend Thurman Thomas, who I told about my internship with the Bills and my experience with Roswell Park’s Alliance Foundation.

Another person I networked with was Gerald Whalen, a judge in the New York State Supreme Court. He happened to know my mom and we talked about family and life more than professional experience. We really connected and he gave me his business card.

I am grateful to have met Judge Whalen and Thurman Thomas because they are both extremely successful people in their respective fields and it was reassuring that they were interested in talking to me. They both admired my desire to work for a company that does great work for the Western New York community.

I hope to have more experiences like this going forward and to stay connected with the people I met at All Star Night.
