Going into my first day at Abbey Mecca, I was really nervous but more excited than anything. I knew that working here would be so much different than my past internship that had a very intimidating, cubicle-filled environment. Because it’s such a small agency, I’ve gotten to know everyone there pretty well after only a few days. The office is small and open, so we’re able to talk to each other from our desks while working. The environment is friendly, casual, and relaxed, and there’s almost always music playing. We’re also located right by Canalside, so when it gets nicer out we’ll be able to walk around. They say it’s a really great way to break up a long day.

I’ve been given a few different projects to work on with my supervisor. So far I have created a billboard draft, worked on a series of logos for the Abbey Mecca website, and taken photos for the website. Paul has definitely taught me a lot so far, and I really appreciate his feedback on my work. I’ve also been able to work on the Abbey Mecca website itself a bit, and look through the websites for other clients. Now that I know more about what I can do with websites, I’m hoping to move more in that direction over time. The combination of design, marketing and some SEO is really interesting and something I want to learn more about.

They have also given me the opportunity to sit in on actual business meetings or conference calls with clients, and travel to client locations with them. Recently, I went with them to the Mercy Flight headquarters for a meeting and got to see their plans for the upcoming year. I really appreciate the level of responsibility they’ve given me from the start and how they’ve been treating me as more than just the intern.
