I began my internship at the Buffalo History Museum on the Friday of the first week of the Semester. This being my first internship, I was not only excited, but I was also unsure what my position would exactly entail. After working the past few weeks I was not only comfortable with where I landed, but also pleasantly surprised. So far I have been working under Connie Caldwell who is the Media Contact for the Museum as well as the Director of Communications and Community Engagement. The first project that we are working on is M&T Third Fridays, which is an exhibit on the Pan-American Exposition (the First ever world fair held in Buffalo in 1901).  An addition to this I have also been doing research for news outlets to broadcast facts of the day about the history of Buffalo and Western New York. The main benefit from this is of course gaining publicity and recognition for the museum. One of the more exciting parts of my internship so far was going to a Press Conference given by the Mayor at City Hall this past Monday. The Smithsonian is offering a free program through multiple arts organizations throughout Buffalo, that brought opportunity to people that would not normally have the option. This was a fun event to be a part of and because we were standing behind the Mayor speaking to the press, I ended up being on the news as well. So far this internship has been a really interesting experience and I am excited to gain even more understanding to come.
