Last Thursday afternoon I had the pleasure of attending The Griff Fair hosted by the Griff Center! In the weeks prior to the event, I was asked by the Griff Center staff to assist them as Petey for the event. Throughout this year, I have enjoyed every opportunity to be Petey and this event was no different, I had the ability to walk around the fair and interact with employers as the Petey mascot. After doing my rounds and working as Petey, I changed and returned to the fair to interact with the employers and gather information, get insight, and identify potential opportunities. I was able to speak with a variety of employers and use the interesting ice-breaker that I was just in the Petey costume, sparking conversation with them. I spoke with businesses and organizations including Sonwil, Six Flags, WGRZ, and the State Police. Speaking with the various businesses allowed me to recognize potential careers within the scope of my studies. Additionally, since my current career goal is to work as a Public Information Officer (PIO) with the State Police, it was great to have the opportunity to speak with a recruiter and have them answer some of my questions. Especially since I just took the entrance exam, we were able to have a more in-depth conversation about next steps and the hiring and promotion processes that are in place, so I can better plan to reach my goal!
