I was getting a little bit worried towards the end of the semester that I wasn’t going to be able to figure out what networking event I should go to. However, through my internship at GM, I heard about the Buffalo Means Business Networking event. So in addition to attending the event, I also decided to help work the GM booth there too, especially because it was one of the first events that was celebrating the Tonawanda Engine Plant’s 80th anniversary. Although the event was not as well-attended as I had anticipated, there were a lot of local vendors, companies and businesses there available to talk to, and I even got to meet and get a picture with Tom Bauerle, a radio talkshow host on WBEN. The event was interesting for me to go to because the GM Plant Manager came, and I was responsible for getting him to his interview with WBEN on time, a well as getting him up on stage for two proclamations to be read: one from the City of Buffalo proclaiming that April 19th was Tonawanda Engine Plant Day, and then another from the Town of Tonawanda. I got to talk with a lot of local vendors about job opportunities, see how on-air interviews go, and sample some food. Best of all, I got to see one of the Corvette’s that GM TEP produces the engines for, so that was pretty amazing too. Overall I thought the whole event was beneficial and pretty entertaining.
