This semester, I joined the American Advertising Federation Buffalo Chapter through Advertising Club at Canisius College. The members were invited to join the Addy’s two-part event this spring to honor Advertising and Marketing professionals for all of their creative work over the course of the last year.

My club-mates and I attended the Addy’s Preview Show on Thursday, March 2nd, at Big Ditch Brewery. We got to review all of the submitted material from beverages, to musical ads, to brochures and pamphlets, to invitations and packaging. The work included a number of talented designers that touched base in a number of different business segments including healthcare, education, and entertainment. We attended the event with Professor Dahlberg, the Ad Club Advisor, and were able to meet a number of Buffalo professionals in a laid back, more casual environment.

That event previewed for the big night on March 10th which was held at Buffalo Riverworks. This year, the Addy’s had a wrestling theme, where they set up a ring and utilized hashtags such as #adsmack and #rumblemania for all social media accounts. The dress code was open unlike years in the past, where one could dress like their favorite wrestler or keep it business casual. The event included a full dinner buffet, an open bar, clever skits and the grand announcement of all winners as all guests gathered around the ring in bleachers.

At the event, I ran into almost all of my co-workers at Quinlan. I had the opportunity to chat with them outside of the office, and many introduced me to friends and peers in other departments at other agencies. It was an opportunity to get to know more professionals in Buffalo. It was especially nice to speak to some recent ad-working grads to learn a little bit more about the transition from school to working environment. They had a lot of useful insight, and I left with a number of new connections. All in all, it was a really great experience!
