Networking for Newbies

On Thursday April 9th I had the great opportunity to attend a networking event called “Lunch and Learn” hosted by the GriffCenter at Canisius College. It was a great experience to meet Jill Bond from Rich Products as a small group of us sat enjoying a light lunch. Hearing what Jill had to say about the real world seemed a little scary at first but slowly but surely you realize that everybody started off like you did! As a graduate of Canisius College it was cool to see just how successful you can become after graduation. Jill is now the Senior Vice President at Rich’s after quickly working her way up the ladder. She offered advice from simply being kind and friendly to realizing that the first job you get probably won’t be your last. If you aren’t happy with what you’re doing just remember you can always look for a new job! Do what you love! Those in attendance were mostly Communication and Marketing majors so the conversation was mostly about the HR aspects of her job. Although I will not be staying in Buffalo or planning on getting an HR job it was a still a good opportunity to learn about what people in the real world believe it takes to make it there and that it’s not so hard after all!
