This is my second week at my internship with WNED/ WBFO in Education and Outreach.   At first, I was really unsure of what the department was and what exactly they did.  What does education and outreach have to do with a television/radio station?  After talking with my supervisor the answer to this question became more clear.  They partner with a lot of other groups such as schools, banks, and health insurance organizations such as Blue Cross to help spread awareness about important issues.  They do this by producing brochures, films/TV programs, and even holding events.

The first week of my internship was pretty much spent getting acquainted with these materials.  I looked at all of the brochures, films/TV programs, and campaigns that WNED has been involved with in the past few years.  As of right now, I haven’t done much more than that.  I attended a short meeting in which upcoming events were discussed, addressed a few envelopes for the Writer’s Contest, and started working on updating an extensive list of emails.

Overall, I’ve found that the beginning of my internship has been slow.  I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing.  I’ve had plenty of time to learn about the company as a whole, the Education and Outreach department, and the various organizations they have partnered with.  I’ve had opportunities to meet the people I will be working with throughout the semester and I feel a lot more comfortable about working there now.  I just can’t wait until I can walk in and know exactly what I need to be working on, and actually helping out with something.  I’m sure that this will happen in due time.  For now, I am really looking forward to working here.
