When interviewing with Bill Maher I learned a lot about his early years in his career. I asked him questions about how he got to where he was today, and it made me realize that no one is ever really handed a job, they need to work hard to get to where they want to be in life. For Mr. Maher he caught his big break while attending East Stroudsburg University majoring in Sport Administration. He had a graduate assistantship in the Athletic Department at the university, because he knew that sports was what he wanted to be involved with in his career. Having experience is also a huge component to getting a job, which I also learned from Mr. Maher. After he graduated with his Master’s degree he taught for another four years before he became the assistant athletic director for compliance at Canisius College.  He moved on to the University at Buffalo for a short period of time and then returned to Canisius College where he currently works.
From doing this informational interview I have realized that nothing is easy. You must work hard at everything you do, and if you want to succeed you have to be the best of the best. Being able to talk to Mr. Maher really gave me the motivation that I needed to get more involved, and make more connections in order to succeed in my career. One of the most memorable things that he told me was to never give up, and work as hard as I can to make my aspirations become a reality.
I was definitely nervous to begin the interview, because I know how bust Mr. Maher can be, but once we started talking he was very helpful and I could tell that he really cared about sharing his experiences with me.
