I am currently participating in my third internship, so I have had plenty of experience being an intern. From my first internship until now, I have become much more comfortable with the whole process. My advice for first-time interns is to not be afraid to have a voice. Interns may feel like they don’t have as much experience as their supervisors or co-workers (which is usually true), so they take a step back and become more of a “watcher” than a “doer.” I have learned that although we are young and inexperienced, we have fresh and innovative ideas to contribute. If you feel the timing is appropriate, speak-up and add to the conversation. Your supervisor and co-workers will be impressed and appreciate your input.
