With graduation right around the corner, I decided to go to the senior portfolio review that is held every year by the Advertising Club of Buffalo.  I was very nervous but excited to have my work critiqued by professionals and to meet them and other like-minded students. There were about 30 students present and 25 professionals. The timing was set up so that each professional would see each student in a 10-minute time frame. It was a lot of pressure because 10 minutes is not very long to chat and go over some design work with someone.
The critique went very well. I got some good feedback from the professionals and things that I can improve on before applying to jobs. They were very pleased about my digital portfolio presentation and that my work is very diverse. Many students that are entering the field often make the mistake of having all their creative work look the same. Each piece should have a different mood or perspective that will then make up the entire portfolio, they told me. Many of them asked that I give them a resume and that was also exciting because it showed that they are very interested in my work. It was good to chat with so many professionals and it was a good exercise to get my points across in a 10-minute time frame as well. I ran out of resumes and business cards so I guess that’s a good sign too!
