Those who use Zoom for web conferencing, meetings and courses frequently make recordings of their online sessions. Canisius’ Zoom license includes plenty of room to house these recordings online but there is a limit to the total storage for all users. This January, the Zoom administrators at Canisius will begin deleting videos that were recorded before the fall 2018 semester. In most cases, videos still stored in Zoom accounts are no longer in use or haven’t been viewed anytime recently. If you have videos stored at Zoom that you continue to use in coursework or administrative work, please download and transfer them to your Canisius Google Drive by January 7, 2019.

Students from the Physical and Health Education/Teacher Education (P/HETE) program attended the 81st annual New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD) conference from Thursday, November 15 – Saturday, November 17 in Verona, NY. Teacher candidates Amber Schiele ’18 and Matt Chase MS ’18 were honored as P/HETE Major Award Winners during the Amazing Persons Ceremony on Thursday, November 15. The award is given to one undergraduate and one graduate student for outstanding performance relevant to his or her preparation for the profession in the areas of health, physical education, recreation or dance.
The conference was highlighted by a keynote address from MaryEllen Elia, New York State Commissioner of Education and president of the University of the State of New York (SUNY). Elia’s comments regarding “quality health and physical education instruction are absolutely essential to a child’s education, growth, and development” were well-received by the audience. Following her presentation, Clancy Seymour, EdD, professor of Kinesiology, was one of ten NYS AHPERD leaders invited to meet with Elia afterwards for a brief question and answer session.
Additionally, the Western Zone Chapter of the association and the Canisius College P/HETE program hosted a joint social for zone members, current teacher candidates and former alumni of the college with over 100 members in attendance. A special thanks to Joe Evans, adjunct professor of kinesiology, for his efforts to coordinate P/HETE attendance along with Dr. Seymour and Lauren Kicak, associate director of Graduate Admissions for her co-sponsorship of the event.

Talk about your hands-on learning.
Students in Professor Barbara Irwin’s “Broadcasting in America” class were running the show – literally – last Tuesday, November 13 when they produced four upcoming episodes of “Bragging Rights.” The quiz show airs on WBBZ-TV and pits two teams of three against one another in a race to answer trivia questions on a variety of subjects, with a classic twist, in keeping with the theme of the MeTV network programs that air on WBBZ-TV.
As producers of the program, students were required to secure eight teams to participate in the upcoming episodes. Canisius was well-represented. Among the college teams battling it out for bragging rights: baseball vs. cross country and track; the Undergraduate Student Association vs. the Golden Griffin Great Grads; The Griffin newspaper vs. FUSION; and the English Department faculty vs. Griffins’ Best, a group of unaffiliated students. Even Petey, the college mascot, made an appearance on the game show. Guest score keepers also hailed from Canisius. Sandy Miller, director of corporate and foundation relations, and Matt Gorczyca, assistant director of the Canisius Fund tallied up the points for each team.
But you’ll have to wait to see who prevails with bragging rights. The Canisius episodes aren’t scheduled to air until November 27, November 28, December 4 and December 5, at 8:00 p.m. on WBBZ-TV.
