Celebration of Life Held for Robert Wilmers

President John Hurley and a select number of community leaders including Jeremy Jacobs, Howard Zemsky, Robert Gioia, Sen. Charles Schumer and U.S. Rep. Brian Higgins were featured in a touching video tribute to the late M&T Bank CEO Robert Wilmers, whose memory and contributions to the community were celebrated earlier this week at Kleinhans Music Hall.

Nearly 1,500 people attended the memorial service that celebrated Wilmers’ life and highlighted the tremendous difference he made in Western New York since becoming M&T’s largest shareholder in the early 1980s. Wilmers, who passed away unexpectedly in December, was a generous donor to Canisius and a good friend of the college. Canisius bestowed an honorary degree upon Wilmers in 1988, and the college’s Board of Regents named him a Distinguished Citizen in 1996.

BN360 on Campus January 26

bn360.pngCanisius hosts Buffalo Niagara 360 (BN360) on campus Friday, January 26 at 10 a.m. in Lyons Hall 118. BN360 hosts events and creates programming that is focused on professional growth and development opportunities. Because Canisius is a gold level partner of Buffalo Niagara 360, there are many benefits for young professionals.  As an employee of the college, you can access all of these programs and events for free! On Friday, Rachael Herrmann from the Buffalo Niagara Partnership shares more information on how to be an involved member and showcases all of the great events provided to BN360 members. This is a great opportunity to network right here on campus!

For more information and to RSVP please contact Mike Seaman at seamanm@canisius.edu

See what BN360 offers here.

Call for Donations

On Monday, January 29, Campus Ministry is launching a food pantry in Old Main 209 (in the hallway leading toward Churchill Tower) as part of an initiative to ensure that all members of the Canisius community have access to the resources they need. The pantry is unlocked during business hours for anyone who needs to come in for food. Furthermore, there is a “no questions asked” policy in effect regarding an individual’s personal need for the items.

We are currently accepting donations of nonperishable, unopened food items as well as meal cards (gift certificates to restaurants, grocery stores, etc.) for the campus ministers to hand out at their discretion. Please bring donations to Old Main 209 and leave the items on the shelf. We especially need donations of items high in protein (such as beans, canned tuna or chicken, nuts, etc.). Thank you in advance for your kindness and consideration! If you have any questions, contact Darby Ratliff in Campus Ministry at Ext. 2875 or at ratliffd@canisius.edu.

This is a great opportunity to increase your activity levels throughout the month of February.

Awards go to the university that tracks the most minutes, as well as the university that averages the highest number of minutes per participant. Several important details about the challenge are listed below:

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Starts: 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, February 1, 2018
  • Ends:  8:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday, February, 28, 2018
  • Eligible participants:  full-time and part-time faculty and staff from any Jesuit university registered in advance
  • Except for challenge administrators, each participant must create a new account using their valid university email address on www.GoMoveChallenge.org, even if they participated last year
  • Each participant must record their own minutes on the challenge website; no one can enter minutes for another participant
  • There is no limit to how often minutes can be recorded
