Celebration of Life for Martha Veasey ᾽82, MS ᾽89

Martha Veasey ’82, MS ’89, former director of community relations and disability support services at Canisius, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018.

Veasey also served as the advisor to the college’s Afro-American  Society and the Afro-American Student Gospel Ensemble for more than 20 years. She retired in 2007.

A wake will be held at noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 at T.L. Pickens Mortuary Services, 66 East Utica Street in Buffalo, NY, 14209. A celebration of Veasey’s life will immediately follow around 2:00 p.m.

Condolences may be sent to T.L. Pickens Mortuary Services.

Responding to Acts of Violence Training

Next month, the Public Safety and Human Resources departments will offer training sessions that present attendees with strategies that can assist them when responding to acts of violence in the workplace. Wil Johnson, director of public safety, will provide information on things to consider when dealing with various situations that may arise on a college campus, or other locations, to ensure safety.  The dates and times for the training sessions have changed.  The new dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, February 13 from 10 ‒ 11 a.m. in Grupp Fireside Lounge
  • Thursday, February 15 from 4 ‒ 5 p.m. in Old Main 104
  • Tuesday, February 20 from 2 ‒ 3 p.m. in Regis Room South

First Place Hockey Team Returns to HARBORCENTER

Griffs host a pair of weekend games

Your first place Golden Griffin hockey team returns to home ice this weekend for the first time in five weeks to host American International. Game times on Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13 are set for 7:35 p.m.

The Griffs are coming off a challenging road trip that featured games at top five teams Clarkson and Cornell and ECAC opponent St. Lawrence. AIC swept Holy Cross this past weekend to move into fourth place in the Atlantic Hockey standings. Canisius is currently tied with Niagara for first in AHC with a league mark of 10-4-0. AIC sits four points behind Canisius, however, the Griffs have three games in hand.

FYI, the Buffalo Bandits have a 7:35 p.m. game on Saturday night, so plan to arrive early to avoid any parking confusion.

TIAA on Campus January 18

 Discuss retirement goals

Greg Tedone, financial consultant for TIAA, will be on campus on Thursday, January 18 in the Library Conference Room for individual counseling sessions.  He will meet with individuals to review and discuss current investments, answer questions, and review options to help meet retirement goals.
