Ken Sroka, retired professor of English is the October “Volunteer of the Month” at ECMC. He was nominated by Dr. Lisa Keenan, a psychologist in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at ECMC.

“Ken Sroka is an exceptional volunteer who has genuine concern for the well-being of our patients as human beings. He has been facilitating weekly reading groups for both patients who sustained brain injury as well as chronic pain patients. He goes above and beyond with his preparations and the patients are benefitting tremendously from this venue. Ken takes an interest in ensuring that post-injury patients engage in goal setting and are taking part in activities that support feelings of worth. In between groups, he writes up detailed summaries about what was read and highlights the discussion. He also has created a satisfaction survey to better structure this program based on the patient’s needs and preferences. Ken is reliable and a wonderful asset to ECMC. Thanks, Ken, for all you do to make our world a better place!”
