The Opening Reception for the Art Show in the Peter A and Mary Lou Vogt Gallery in the Bouwhuis Library originally scheduled for August 30 from 5 – 7 p.m. has been rescheduled for September 6 at the same time. The show, entitled SAT NAM features the work of Olean native Jessie Slattery and highlights the artist’s journey to motherhood. The works will be on display from August 30 through October 4.
Slattery writes: “SAT NAM is a mantra I started using about two years ago during my prenatal yoga practice. One of the many verbal translations is ‘I am truth. Truth is my name.’ This series of work is an aesthetic translation. It is a mantra itself, read and repeated, resonating with each mindful breath.” Slattery’s ideas are visually expressed mainly through mixed media: watercolor, photography, and a stream of consciousness method to drawing.
