President’s Convocation September 8

The annual President’s Convocation is scheduled for Thursday, September 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  I invite all students, faculty and staff to join me as I give a report on the state of the college and my plans for the future.  Time will also be available at the end for you to ask me questions.  I hope that you will be able to attend and stay to enjoy a reception that will follow the address.

Wellenzohn Named Assistant Dean School Of Education & Human Services

Michael J. Pardales, PhD, dean of the School of Education and Human Services, announces that Nancy Wellenzohn, EdD, was named assistant dean for program quality, undergraduate affairs, and director of accreditation for the School.

Wellenzohn’s new responsibilities include collaboration with faculty to develop and maintain curriculum that adheres to state standards and meets students’ needs, coordination of the accreditation process and advisement and administration of undergraduate affairs.

Previously assistant director and instructor in the Educational Administration Programs, Wellenzohn will continue to serve in these capacities.  She also previously served as a graduate admissions representative since 2005.

Prior to coming to Canisius, Wellenzohn served as a teacher and administrator in public secondary schools in New York, Michigan, and Illinois. She earned a doctor of education in educational administration and a master of business administration degree in marketing from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a bachelor of science degree in secondary education from the State University of New York College at Oswego.

Ha To Speak On Use Of Primates In Biomedical Research

James Ha, PhD, research associate professor of psychology at the University of Washington (Seattle), will present an overview of the challenges, costs, and benefits of using primates in biomedical research on Friday, September 9 at 6 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

Ha’s talk will cover past trends in regulatory oversight and predictions for the future.  This will be an opportunity to hear personal perspectives from a leader in the field.  This special symposium is sponsored by the Canisius College Institute for the Study of Human-Animal Relations.

Women’s Soccer Home For Two This Weekend

Fresh off a home-opening victory over Bucknell, the defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Canisius women’s soccer team hosts a pair of Labor Day contests this weekend.

On Friday (September 2), the Griffs meet Quinnipiac at 7 p.m. and on Sunday (September 4), Canisius hosts Youngstown State at 1 p.m.  Both games will be played at the Demske Sports Complex.  Great fun, great food, and no admission charge.  For additional information go to www.gogriffs.com.
