The incident occurred on July 28 when NFTA Police were involved in their first-ever officer involved shooting on Linwood Avenue.  At the same time of the shooting, there was an armed robbery occurring on the Metro Rail line at the Main/LaSalle station on an inbound train.  The NFTA requested the assistance of the Canisius College Public Safety officers.  At the Sisters Hospital station, McIntyre and Turner spotted the suspects and placed them under arrest.

Chief Gast commended the officers for their swift and professional actions taken at a time when their department was involved in a serious incident and the NFTA officers needed help.  Captain Michael Garrity of the NFTA Police was also present.

Both Everett and Gast also announced the formation of a new commendation program between the NFTA and Canisius College Public Safety.

“There has been a long history of policing Main Street and cooperation between by the NFTA and Canisius College,” said Everett.  “We feel that a formal commendation program to acknowledge the long-standing cooperation is long overdue.”
