There will be a new banner in the Koessler Athletic Center.  The Canisius women’s soccer team captured its first-ever MAAC regular season crown this past weekend blasting their way to the top with a 6-0 victory over St. Peter’s.

The Griffs entered last weekend one game behind Marist.  However, the Red Foxes dropped their Friday night encounter and then tied Fairfield on Sunday leaving the door open for the Griffs.

Canisius struggled to a 1-0 win over Manhattan on Friday getting a goal from junior Kelly Reinwald (pictured, right) with less than three minutes remaining in the match.  Canisius then took advantage of Marist’s missteps in exploding to their highest goal total since October of 2007.

Canisius travels to Baltimore this weekend needing two victories to secure the first NCAA tournament berth in school history.  Canisius plays Rider on Friday (November 5) at 3 p.m.  A victory puts them into the championship game on Sunday (November 7) at 1 p.m. against either Marist or Siena.  During the regular season, the Griffs defeated Rider and Siena, while falling 3-1 to Marist.
