Justice in Action “Peace and Pie”

To celebrate the season of thanks and giving, the Justice in Action (JIA) working group sponsored the event “Peace and Pie” on November 22 in the Faculty Dining Room.  The round-table event was part of JIA’s focus on immigration and environmental justice and as part of their goal to build relationships with the local refugee community.  Pies were donated by the members of JIA.

Through the collaboration of JIA members (Canisius students, faculty and staff) and Shanae Als, the Office for Community-Based Learning’s AmeriCorps Community Relations Coordinator, several refugees from VIVE, Inc., Catholic Charities and the local community were in attendance including those from Bhutan, Burma (Myanmar), Haiti and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Several of the refugees will be instrumental in the Office for Community-Based Learning’s proposed Micro-Business project in which five Business School professors, (Patricia Hutton, PhD; Ji-Hee Kim, PhD; Patricia Johnson, PhD; Ronald Rivas, PhD and Coral Snodgrass, PhD) and students will assist refugees in establishing businesses.

Say Hello To The Deer Across The Street

It’s that time of year again! The Forest Lawn deer have been spotted at the cemetery fence directly across the street from the main campus on Main Street. While not a hazard to the campus, it is advised that members of the campus community not provide the deer with any food.

See additional deer photos and post a comment at the college’s official Facebook page here.
