200 Years on the Erie Canal
ALB Library celebrates the bicentennial with special exhibit
The Canisius College ALB Library celebrates the bicentennial of the Erie Canal with a traveling exhibit. “Two Hundred Years on the Erie Canal” was created by the Empire State Library Network in partnership with the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), with funding from Humanities New York. The exhibit, which also will travel to other libraries around New York State, features four standing panels, each with a different theme indicative of the Erie Canal’s history: “Dreamers and Builders,” “Canal Culture,” “Yankee Ingenuity” and “Moving Ideas.” The panels all feature images taken from historical photographs, art and documents from the DPLA. The website provides access to digitized images contributed by libraries across the country, many are from Western New York libraries and archives, including Canisius. A companion online exhibit is available through an electronic kiosk next to the panel exhibit or online here .
“Two Hundred Years on the Erie Canal” is located near the graphic novel collection on the first floor of the ALB Library. It is free and open to the public during regular library hours now through the end of October to commemorate National Archives Month.
