Highly motivated Canisius College students, who want to build on their undergraduate education with top-notch social work training, will be able to accelerate their course of study by completing both their BA or BS in psychology and the MSW in approximately five years under a new agreement between Canisius College and the University at Buffalo School of Social Work.
This recently signed cooperative agreement, newly announced by UB School of Social Work Dean Keith Alford and Canisius Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences Thomas A. Chambers, marks the first time that the UB School of Social Work partnered with a private college to offer a 3+2 program.The 3+2 Program is open to Canisius students who, by the completion of their third year of enrollment at the college, complete a minimum of 90 credits, including the common core and psychology major requirements. Canisius students interested in the 3+2 Program will be provided with individual academic advisement during the completion of the three-year degree plan.

The college recently received a $1 million gift from long-time benefactors John W. Rowe ’66, HON ’02, MD and Valerie A. Rowe, PhD. The gift will be used to support the development of Science Hall. John Rowe is the Julius B. Richmond professor at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management. Valerie Rowe is a retired associate professor at Fordham University’s School of Education.

The Canisius College Frank G. Raichle Lecture Series on Law in American Society welcomes Randy E. Barnett to campus on Monday, April 11 at 7:15 p.m. in the Regis Room, located on the second floor of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. The event, titled “Is the U.S. a Democracy or a Republic (and Why Does it Matter),” is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow Barnett’s lecture.
Randy Barnett is the Patrick Hotung Professor of Constitutional Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches constitutional law and contracts, and serves as faculty director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution.
