Education students in EDY 209: “Developmentally Appropriate Practices: Playing to Learn” visited the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester on Saturday, October 13. The museum is highly interactive and devoted to both the history and the exploration of play. It houses the world’s most comprehensive collection of toys, games and materials related to play. The students themselves played to learn.

This past Saturday, October 13, Wanzer and Barbara Irwin, PhD, communication studies professor, took part in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk held at Canalside in downtown Buffalo, NY. Their team, “WomanStrong,” placed third out of 350 teams raising just more than $10,500.

40 Under 40

Buffalo’s Business First recently named five Canisius alumni to its 40 Under 40 list. The list identifies the most influential leaders, men and women under age 40, who have achieved success in their professions and who are involved in the Western New York community. Congratulations to the honorees, who are leaders in our community.

The full list of Canisius honorees are:

  • Cassandra Davis MS ’14 – vice president, ambulatory services and population health, Erie County Medical Center Corp.

First United Way Basket Winner Announced

Congratulations to our first United Way basket winner, Emily McGorry. McGorry is the executive associate for Academic Affairs.

The United Way committee will feature a basket raffle each Friday. When you donate to the 2018 campaign, your name will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of the baskets listed below. You will be eligible to win the first week you pledge and throughout the campaign, so pledge early.

The remaining prize baskets include:

Alumni Relations and Advancement Department donation: T-shirt, bracelets, key chain, magnets, lanyard, pop-socket, binder clip, coaster, koozie, water bottle, thermos, pens, wine opener and wine glass

Athletics Department donation: New Era cap, Griff t-shirt, Nike half-zip and scarf

ROTC donation: Cooler, draw-string backpack, pad-folio, coffee mug, tumbler, water bottle and t-shirt

Admissions Department donation: Lunch box, water bottle, baseball t-shirt, socks and power bank charger

United Way Committee donation: Fall-themed basket: wine glasses, oven mitts, table runner, glass platter, kitchen towels, candle and a straw tumbler

Our campaign will run through Monday, November 12. You can access the donation button on your MyCanisius portal page. Your pledge does not carry over from last year, so please take the following steps to make your pledge:

Griffs Host Marist in Mid-Week Soccer Tilt

Canisus men’s soccer looks to continue its second-half surge this afternoon, October 17, as they host Marist at the Demske Sports Complex. The Griffs, winners of two straight, will kick-off at 4:00 p.m. against the Red Foxes, who have moved into second place in the conference with four consecutive victories.
