Fall filled the dining hall on Thursday when Chartwells hosted a free “pop-up” for students, faculty and staff to promote local farms and the products they grow. On the menu: fresh apples, candied apples and apple cider.

President’s Convocation

The Canisius community is cordially invited to attend John J. Hurley’s annual President’s Convocation on Monday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.

Each year, President Hurley hosts this event to bring the campus community together to hear about the state of the college and the priorities for the year ahead.

All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. If you are unable to be present, President Hurley’s remarks will be recorded and posted online.

A cocktail reception will follow President Hurley’s remarks.

Lyft Becomes Official Rideshare Partner of Canisius Athletics

Canisius athletics named Lyft, the fastest growing on-demand transportation service in the United States, the official rideshare partner of Canisius athletics. As part of the partnership, a designated pick-up and drop-off zone will be installed on campus. Available to all Lyft riders, the branded areas will help to alleviate traffic congestion and address parking concerns for fans traveling to and from Canisius athletic events.

To use Lyft, Canisius fans can download the Lyft app to their mobile devices. New users can also use the code GOGRIFFS to receive $20 in free Lyft credit to new users.

Using Videos to Teach? Replace Your Flash-Powered Videos

Adobe Flash, a popular technology for streaming video and interactive content, will gradually be phased out of use by Adobe and other major web browsers. If you have any web content that is dependent on Flash, plan to make arrangements to replace or convert it within the next several months. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Jing, a popular screencast application. Jing records video in flash format. Videos created in Jing, hosted anywhere, will soon become practically difficult to use. Contact the Center for Online Learning & Innovation to learn about newer and more efficient screencast creation options.
  • If you had videos placed on the web by the Canisius College Media Center outside of Google Drive, they will need to be converted or replaced. New content in MP4 and several other formats can be hosted in Google Drive (as well as D2L, YouTube and other locations.) ITS plans to phase out old video servers since the technology that powers them is Flash.

The Student Programming Board’s Homecoming Weekend took place Saturday, September 22. Fall Fest is an essential part of the weekend, consisting of local food trucks, pumpkin decorating, cider, donuts, face painting, caricatures and much more. Students and faculty gathered together to celebrate the new season.
